Applying
vinyl Graphics from Waymatic |
|
WE RECOMMEND YOU GET
AN EXPERIENCED SIGN PROFESSIONAL TO APPLY THE VINYL TO ENSURE
A QUALITY APPLICATION.
If this is your first time applying this
type of material, just go slow and you should do fine.
Be sure to read all of the steps below before starting.
BE SURE TO CLEAN THE
AREA YOU WISH TO APPLY THE GRAPHIC TO THOROUGHLY BEFORE
STARTING. USE WINDEX OR ANY TYPE OF GLASS CLEANER TO
REMOVE DIRT AND OIL. |
|
 |
STEP 1: Center your
material on the panel left and right.
Using your tape measurer, find the left and
right edges of the vinyl graphic. (Be
careful not to measure from the edge of the application tape but
the edge of the vinyl.) Tape your graphic on the left and
right top to keep it held in place as you measure. Make sure
you have the same amount of space on each side, adjust your tape
as needed.
|
 |
STEP 2: Center your
material on the panel top and bottom.
Again, make sure you are measuring from the
edge of the vinyl graphic and not the edge of the application
tape.
|
 |
STEP 3: Anchor
the graphic to the panel in the center.
Once you have the graphic centered, apply a
piece of tape down the center of the graphic from top to bottom. (Make
sure to go completely over the edges of the application tape onto
the panel below.) This will create a hinge for easy
and secure application.
|
 |
STEP 4: Separate
vinyl from backing material.
Carefully separate the application tape and
vinyl from the backing material. Pull back slowly and
stopping once you reach your taped seam. (Be
careful not to go past the seam.)
|
 |
STEP 5: CAREFULLY
cut the backing material away.
You can use a small piece of tape on the
left corner to hold it up while cutting. BE
VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CUT THE PANEL BELOW THE GRAPHIC,
it will show up under the vinyl. Discard the backing
material you cut away.
|
 |
STEP 6: Apply
the right side.
Holding the right side of the vinyl a couple
of inches above the panel, be careful not to pull as it will
stretch the vinyl, start at the left of the tape seam in the
middle of the graphic and move right in an up and down motion with
your squeegee (Moderate pressure should do fine). Be sure to
overlap your strokes keeping all air bubbles from getting trapped
underneath the vinyl. (If you get some bubble under the
vinyl, just continue applying the graphic, you can get rid of most
of them at the end.) Be careful (If you do not have a
squeegee, you can get one at any art supply store or your local
sign shop.)
|
 |
STEP 7: Separate
left side vinyl from backing material.
Remove the center tape hinge. Separate
the vinyl from the application tape on the left pulling back to
the the edge of the previously applied vinyl. (You can
pull it back past this edge a little if you are very careful
when staring the next step.)
|
 |
STEP 8: Apply
the left side.
Carefully holding the left corner about 2
inches above the panel surface, start your squeegee up and down
motion to the right of the seam where the tape hinge was.
Being careful to overlap you motions to keep air bubbles out, move
left until you have applied the left side.
|
 |
STEP 9: Remove
application tape.
VERY CAREFULLY AND
SLOWLY remove the the top layer application tape from
the vinyl. Be sure to pull downward at an angle and hold the
the application tape close to the panel. DO
NOT PULL AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE. Keep an eye on the
vinyl and make sure you are not removing the vinyl with the tape.
|
|
Trouble shooting:
Air Bubbles: If
you get some air bubbles under your material, you can use a
very sharp knife and "pop" them. Use the knife
blade to place a small hole in the bubble at one edge.
Take you finger and start at the opposite edge and push the
air out of the hole.
Vinyl keeps peeling up
when you try to remove application tape: Make sure the
surface under the vinyl is clean. If so, use more
pressure with your squeegee. |
